Animal Rights?

Should animals have rights too?

Millions of domesticated animals year round suffer abuse. Cage animals typically suffer the most. These animals are often kept locked year round in confined space. Many animals are caged outdoors and have to survive through extreme weather condition. What about animals who are not given proper nourishment and care of, is this not abuse?

Animal protection laws are still being developed. Depending upon which state the law is in, it can be considered as a felony or misdemeanor crime. A law such as animal cruelty is implemented in all states. Only in Idaho, North Dakota, and South Dakota it is still a misdemeanor crime. We all know that animal fighting is illegal.

Animals are inferior to humans. There are those who believe animals are human just because animals are capable of expressing feelings. I too believe animals should have limited rights. Animals are not human. They are not capable of distinguishing right from wrong. Animals are incapable of making moral choices.

Do you think these types of animals should have rights? Animals are instinct driven. Domestic animals are raised by humans. If we did not feed these animals, would they not look at us as their next meal?

Animals are used for many things. They are used for research, development, food, clothing, and etcetera. If all animals were given rights, do you believe society would be where it is today? Animals are sacrificed everyday for the sake of humankind. Animals would not want to be researched.

Since the dawn of animals, man has eaten it as a source of survival. Since the dawn of man, we have used animals as a source of warmth. Certain nutrients are only found in sources of meat.

Overall, animals make good pets for companionship. There are those who call them family and those who call them pets. Animals have rights against animal cruelty. Anticruelty laws require that animals be provided with necessities and be treated humanely, unless it is “necessary” or “justifiable” to deny them food, water or shelter.

Animals are different that those of humans. We share similarities but animals are not capable of making moral decisions. We want to think that animals are human, but they lack in judgment. Animals should not be treated as humans.

It is unmoral to dress animals up in skirts and cloths like humans. It would be impossible to give animals the rights as humans as it would defy law of nature. This would have a negative effect, forcing everyone to become vegetarians. Animals have helped the human race become one of the most advanced species on earth. Without the sacrifice of animals we would not be where we are today.

Do animals commit suicide?

Image

http://www.slate.com/articles/news_and_politics/explainer/2011/11/beached_whales_in_new_zealand_do_animals_commit_suicide_.html

All organisms are capable of thinking. Animals mainly are capable of thinking. What I have read up until now suggest that some but not all animals are intelligent. My thoughts are very clear; I do not think animals commit suicide. If you really think about it, I do not think animals understand what it really means to commit suicide. People have said animals are unconscious and lack thinking and feeling. Animals do not lack thinking and feeling but they are unconscious about things. I know they do not understand that they will not live anymore if they would have committed suicide.

It is hard for me to believe that a pod of 61 whales would beech themselves. Whales are intelligent they understand that there is no coming back if they beached themselves. They understand that being out of water is an instant suicide if they are not back into the within a certain time limit. Here is how I know animals think and fell. We all get distracted. When animals get distracted they forget to think, think about thing that might keep them alive. Often engaging in activity that can kill them.

Animals do not engage in self-destruction. What had happen with these whales is that they we experiencing fear. Even as humans, when scared we do thing that we usually would not have. In this case, they beached themselves out of fear. Either there was something in the water that was more danger than coming on land or the tide of the water shifted and brought them to land. Government was probable testing its gismos in the water. Something was probable hurting their ears and wanted it to stop so they came ashore. These are all just theory.

Military sonar has been implicated in the mass stranding of beaked whales. Although there have been environmental groups publishing press releases about all whales being affected by sonar. There has been evidence that this type of sonar affect marine life. This is one of those events that could be considered as evolution. If you think, millions of years ago, we were fish, so it is said. We did not just decide to jump out of the water when we got bored. There had to be sacrifice, only the strong survive. Just maybe the whales are trying to evolve.

These whales probable just lost direction and stranded ashore. My best guess is just that they got lost. Sixty-one is many whales to just be stranded.

No one know for sure why these occur. What I do know is that everyone is poking and pointing in the right direction. No one person can be sure of what is happening. Another navigation theory proposed recently is that whales have a bio-magnetic sense, which allows them to sense magnetic fields in the earth’s crust. “This would be similar to how homing pigeons orient themselves,” explains Parks. Whales following magnetic field lines could beach themselves in areas where the field lines intersect with the coast. “A study in the UK by Margaret Klinowska found a correlation between local magnetic field lines and sites where whales were stranded alive,” adds Parks. However, more research is needed to solidify the connection.

Chimp named Panzee

Image

http://news.discovery.com/animals/zoo-animals/chimpanzee-human-speech-111031.htm

This is a story of an intelligent chimp pan zee. His is a 25-year-old chimp whose name is Panzee.  He has been trained to understand more than 130 English words. Panzee can also recognizes words in sine-wave form, a type of synthetic speech that reduces language to three whistle-like tones. Sine-wave speech replicates the estimated frequency and amplitude patterns of natural utterances. Like humans beings, mammals do not need unique cognitive abilities to process speech, and that instead, the general auditory processes that we share with apes, and probably a common ancestor, can be used to accomplish speech perception tasks.

What is has been known as “Speech is Special” has been disproved.  This has been an ongoing argument proposes that besides humans being the only species able to produce speech, due to their anatomy, they also have a specialized cognitive module to process speech. An alternative view has been proposed saying that auditory processing is fundamentally similar across most mammals, and that many animals have latent abilities for speech perception. Humans are not the only one capable of producing speech nor are human beings the only ones capable of understanding speech. Mammals like human beings, when exposed to things at an early age are capable of understanding at a later age.

It is has been difficult for animals to have rights because they are not like human beings. It has been a long and slow process for animals to gain rights. It has long been thought that animals are only capable of surviving. A technique that has been based off pure instinct. Even going as far as saying animals are not capable of emotion. With this type of research, it show that animals wild or domestic are capable of learning like humans when exposed to different environments of earlier age.

With this type of research, we are learning that animal are not so different from us. They just have a different anatomy then we do. Research like this show that animals are close relative. With more proof that we can provide about animals through research the better chances animal activist have to proposes better living rights so that animals have a better chance at living in harmony with human without fear. This goes to show that animals have similar intellect as we do.

The more proof there is the better the animal right are. In most cases, it is said that animal rights are not practical because animals are not willing or able to take responsibility for their actions and thus cannot be afforded any concomitant rights and if granted rights they would just crap all over things, steal food, and then not go to court when summoned. These researches can help animal rights by showing that animals are capable of learning. They can be taught responsibility and thus create more rights for them although it will not me comparable to rights of humans. Animals are just more intelligent if not more than we are. We all had to learn right from wrong, so why animal cannot be taught right from wrong?

an experienced games coder about the differences between Xbox One and PS4’s approach to system memory. He has asked to remain anonymous, but this is what he wrote…

“Memory-wise there are really deep areas you can get into on how Sony has optimised certain paths to access the RAM. Microsoft will hopefully be doing similar stuff to that, I imagine – we’re only disclosed on PS4 so I don’t know for sure, they’re not dumb though.

“Regarding the RAM type, however, GDDR5 equals 176gb/sec, DDR3 equals 68gb/sec – I don’t know the exact numbers for the Xbox One RAM but it’ll be around that. GDDR5 is slightly higher latency, which means the time between requesting a piece of data and getting it to the CPU/GPU to work with can be slightly longer than with DDR3. This latency can be hidden by well-written code on CPU and normally is hidden well by GPUs due to how their pipelines work (which is why GDDR is normally found on GPU’s).

“Ultimately though, that 2.5x faster bandwidth number means that a larger amount of data can be taken from RAM, processed by the CPU (or more importantly on these new architectures, the Compute Units on the GPU) and spat back out to RAM to either process again or render. At the end of the day, everything in games comes down to: ‘grab information’; ‘transform that data somehow’; ‘spit it back out’ – so being faster at this is a very good thing.

“Microsoft is winning bandwidth back for the GPU through the 32MB ESRAM (102gb/sec I believe, and assuming you’re using this RAM a lot, it means that the total Microsoft bandwidth is 168gb/sec); this will even things back out a bit but require a bit of extra management by developers and it is only 32MB which limits the amount of uses.

“This kind of architecture with faster RAM for the GPU to use for framebuffers (the block of data storing the image being rendererd out or nowadays temporary graphic buffers storing lighting/material information) is something developers are used to working with, but it’s more complex than the approach needed on the PS4.”

Delta Dental awards Topeka Correctional Facility $25,000

Delta Dental is one of the leading providers for Dental in Kansas. The Topeka Correctional Facility for women were awarded $25,000 later this year. The dental lab’s Technician Training Program provides students with both education and hands-on experience in the art and science of denture making.  The dentures they create are provided to medically underserved patients of the Kansas Association for the Medically Underserved Safety Net Clinics of Kansas.   The funds provided to TCF have allowed the dental lab to purchase much-needed equipment and supplies that will help broaden the students’ (offenders) training and increase productivity.

The Delta Dental of Kansas Foundation was pleased to continue to support of the TCF Dental Lab Program. TCF continues to work with the KAMU clinics across the state to provide quality, affordable dentures to dental patients. The growth and continuation of this program is paramount to the success for both inmates and safety net patients, said Karen Finstad, executive director of the foundation.

The dental lab is such an exciting program because, through the Safety Net Clinics in Kansas, offenders can help provide good quality and affordable dentures to individuals who cannot afford them. Thanks to the generosity of the Delta Dental of Kansas Foundation, these female offenders are making a difference in the oral health of Kansans, while learning important skills to help them succeed when they are released. The women are having a personal impact on many lives one smile at a time. These type of program our helping our offenders while helping the recidivism rate.

Grant proposal

I know I am not the only one who has not done a grant proposal. One idea I thought was to do a grant proposal for the city of Wichita. I want to write a proposal for the investment of placement of more security cameras. I feel that if Wichita is a great place to live and work and if it had more cameras in place it would make it seem safer. This would give that sense of feeling of someone is always watching. I want more cameras in the place of popular and high crime areas. Having more cameras could help reduce crime. There has been 2 murders in alone in Old town. I know I am at the beginning stage. I have a lot that I have to calculate such as cost of equipment, installation, and maintenance.

Wiki Links & Grant Proposals

The Wiki links was a very neat tool to use. I can say that it did have its advantages and disadvantages. What made it unique was that it was easier than I believe it to be. Wiki link was like a self-base link. I like the fact that we were able to contribute information during our own schedule. This might have seemed difficult for some people but for me it was easier. For the most part Wiki link allowed each other to communicate with each other via internet. I did not like the fact that it was not private.  Like the PSA, the grant follows the same basic step. First you have to first start with a plan or idea. Then you have to develop from that plan.

I learned that grant are similar to a research paper. It must consist of introduction, body, and a close. The introduction is your objectives. The body can include facts, explanations, and costs. The close is generally summarizing everything that you written in other words paraphrasing. A grant proposal is one of those things that I have never came across in my years of education. There is not much I know about these or are able to talk about it besides what I read. For what it is worth I think it just looks difficult. It may actually be easier than it looks, sound, and seem. This has to be a great opportunity to learn how to do this for future reference and can even be added on to a resume.

Criminal justice resume analysis

Being a Criminal Justice Major or any other major is an important acheivment in anyone life. It is important to start building your resumes as early as possible. Those who start early usually have a better start in their care choice.

http://www.scribd.com/doc/6213756/Criminial-Justice-Resume-Sample

I will be critiquing a Criminal Justice resume. Although this was just a sample, I think this resume has potential. In the beginning of a resume like this one, you always want to start off with the basics and work your way on from there. The objective to me seem very bland. Most to all of the time you want to help convince employers that you know what you want and are familiar with the field. This part just did not have it.

I was impressed the education sections. It is simple but it also includes bullets that pertains to what the classes the person took that helps emphasize what they are applying for. I really like the club an association section. I think this is really important. Whether you know it or not jobs actually look for these thing. It is sometimes best to join a fraternity or sorority, these are excellent for resumes.

This is optional, but it had a leadership experience section. I also thought this was important because all employers look for leadership skills. The more experience you have as a leader the better chance you have at landing an interview. The work experience section was not all that great. It lacked employment history. This is often not good. Simple because employer get an ideal of who you are by durations of employment.

Last thing about this resume was the interest section. I personally think this was not necessary for this particular resume. This section has nothing to do with what she is applying for.

PSA: Bath Salt

pt_1538_1480_o

A few years back, what is known as bath salt was legal to purchase. There have been many names to describe this drug such as “ivory wave,” “purple wave,” “vanilla sky,” and “bliss.” This drug has been known to cause zombie like abnormal tendencies. On May 26, 2012, America seen up close what can happen to people to who use this Schedule 1 drug (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZEMJrtBq6Rs). On this date, live footage caught this man supposedly high off what was thought to be bath salt, seen eating another man’s face.

In addition to this, the Navy has had similar issues and have created a PSA video to stop and prevent use of bath salt [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SvY55Xkmm90]. This is a wonderful video. This tells a story from the beginning to the end. The audience of this video is for drug user and attempted drug user. I found this interesting simple because it shows me what can happen when you snort, inject, or consume this drug.

This is definitely an indirect approach to prevent use of this substance. Unlike most videos, this one was able to get its point across with little to no words. Right from the beginning, you are able to comprehend what is going on. After consumption, it shows that you are destine to have disillusions and hurt the ones you love.
I think this PSA should have had a parental guardian advisory on it. This ways, [responsible] children could watch it with their [responsible] parents and ask question so that this can deter yet another child from using it.

Critiquing the Federal Trade Commission for “Social Networking Sites: Safety tips for tweens and teens”

I am going to be analyzing the FTC document for “Social Networking Sites: Safety tips for tweens and teens”

http://www.onguardonline.gov/articles/0012-kids-and-socializing-online#limit

This document is very informative. The audience is apparently addressed towards the parents who have children that use social networking websites. This is resourceful for parents who want to understand and limit the access for their tween and teens who are involved in social networking.

The message was able to follow AIDA (Attention, interest, Desire, Action) model.

Attention- the documents was able encourage its audience to want to know and understand the problems and issues by using social networking sites.

Interest- the documents provides a vast amount of information for it audience to understand how this information can be of benefit.

Desire- The purpose of the document is to help adults understand common issues and consequences in social networking. It explains how detrimental social networking can be. It helps parents to help coach their kids understand the positives and negatives for their actions.

Action- all in all the documents is supposed to help parents help their children make the right decision. This stands as a guide for parents who want to help their children make the right decision. It helps parents to understand what their children are doing on these sites and help better prepare them to take control of online use. Social networking can be good for some and detrimental to others who abuse it.

Overall, I was able to be persuaded by the information provided and use it to my advantage.
